Friendly House was founded in 1951 and was one of the first treatment centers in the country for women recovering from substance and alcohol abuse.

Who do you help?
We assist women recovering from the diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction, offering a compassionate alternative to women who would otherwise return to destructive environments.
How much does it cost for treatment?
Friendly House is one of the few affordable homes for women in recovery in Los Angeles. The monthly cost is $3,900 USD and covers full room and board in addition to our treatment program. We ask each woman to pay for her treatment; however, we also encourage donations to sponsor care when available and can oftentimes offer this as an option to those in need.
How are you funded?
The organization is solely supported by private donations and grants, by the fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors, Grateful Hearts (former residents of Friendly House), and special events such as our Annual Awards Luncheon.
What is required to get in?
Admission is granted if we see an honest desire to stop substance abuse and a 72-hour detox prior to admission.
What are the goals?
We focus on achieving a stabilized recovery from addiction, renewing family relationships, and reintegrating into the community, all tools needed to establish long-term sobriety.
Where are you located?
We have two residences. The main house, a seven-bedroom home built in the early 1900s, is located in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles and houses 16 women. Our Sober Living residence, donated by the William Shatner Family Foundation, is a five-bedroom home located on the Westside of Los Angeles and accommodates 11 women.
